Tampa Bay Completes Trade with Chicago Following Playoff Elimination
With Tampa Bay officially eliminated from the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, it was time to make official a conditional pick handed away by the Bolts at the deadline.
Because the Lightning made the playoffs, the pick is obviously higher than 10th overall, so the Chicago Blackhawks will receive a first-round pick in exchange for Brandon Hagel. In the forthcoming draft, that is now the 20th overall pick. If the Florida Panthers reach the conference finals, the pick will become a 19th overall then.

In six postseason games with Tampa, Hagel had a goal and four helpers, which isn’t awful at all. However, the upcoming draft is deep, and a 20th overall pick for Chicago appears to be a very good deal at the moment. At the deadline, Tampa also traded Tanner Jeannot for a package of five draft picks, including a 2025 first-round pick (lottery protected).
