Sabres:The Week that Was
Buffalo had an interesting week. First, they were handled well by the Boston Bruins by a score of 5-2. Perhaps what is best known from this game is John Scott’s hit on Forward Loui Eriksson. Scott’s elbow ended up making direct contact to Ericksson’s head and knocking him out on the play. Scott has been suspended indefinitely until his hearing on Thursday. Scott has never been suspended before so it will be interesting to see how many games he will receive.

Buffalo finally earned its first regulation win of the season. Buffalo was able to defeat the Florida Panthers by a score of 3-1. Sabres rookie Rasmus Ristolainen scored his first career NHL goal, while Steve Ott and Cody Hodgson also found the back of the net. Jhonas Enroth had a huge game as he made 44 saves on 45 shots in the victory. Buffalo was badly outshot again as the Panthers held a 45-21 advantage but fortunately for the Sabres it’s the total amount of goals scored that matter and not the total amount of shots taken.
Lightning could not strike twice in the Sunshine state as the Sabres lost against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Buffalo could not hold onto a 2-1 lead, falling to Tampa Bay 3-2. Brian Flynn and Thomas Vanek had goals in the losing effort. Ryan Miller got the start in net, making 36 saves on 39 shots. Foward Ville Leino made his return to the Sabres lineup after battling injuries and recorded an assist.
The Sabres return home Monday night as Lindy Ruff makes his return to Buffalo as coach of the Dallas Stars. Puck drops at 7:00.
