Red Wings Training Camp Day 2 Recap: Interviews and Video
Day 2 of training camp took place on Saturday following Henrik Zetterberg’s retirement announcement Friday.
Here are all of the videos and interviews:
Andreas Athanasiou talked about playing with Thomas Vanek and helping to fill the role that Zetterberg’s retirement left.
“I think just playing with a player as highly skilled as him, it just makes the game so much easier,” said AA of Vanek. “The puck’s on his stick, I know as long as I put myself in the right position, I have a good feeling [the pass] will be right on my tape. It’s a lot of fun playing with that amount of skill.”
“Any time you can take another step and become a bigger role player in this league is definitely a good feeling. Obviously it’s going to be sad not being on the ice with Z, but everyone’s going to have to step up and take over those minutes that he played.”
The team has the task of redistributing Zetterberg’s 20 minutes of ice time among the remaining players.

David Pope
Pope is poised to have a great year. He has increased his strength and conditioning and his shooting and skating continue to be excellent. He is coming off a good Prospect Tournament as well.
“I thought it was pretty good,” he said. “I enjoyed it. It’s a chance to kind of get in that game feel right before main camp.”
