Oscar Dansk Signs Entry Level Contract With Columbus Blue Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets season has come to an end, but they are still busier than ever. The Jackets have signed goaltender Oscar Dansk to a three-year entry-level contract, after selecting him 31st overall in the 2012 NHL entry draft.
The Swedish born goaltender has spent the last two seasons between the pipes for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. In 85 appearances with the Otters, his record sits at 40-32-7 with a 3.25 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. Dansk and fellow Erie Otter Devin Williams were the winners of the Dave Pinkney Trophy for top team goaltending in 2013-14 after the Otters allowed a league low 170 goals in 68 games. With dynamite performances between the two goaltenders, the Otters were able to post a franchise high 52 wins in a single season.
If we jump back to the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship you may recall that Dansk had earned top goaltender hours recording five wins, a 1.79 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. With these strong numbers, he took home the silver medal that year and had also taken home the same medal in the 2012 IIHF World U18 Championships.
Dansk has been an Erie Otter since the team drafted him in the first round, third overall, at the 2012 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. From 2010 to 2012, he spent his time playing for Brynas J20 in Sweden’s top junior league. While playing there he chalked up an impressive 2.77 goals against average, a .910 save percentage, and three shutouts in 49 appearances.
Expect to see him between the pipes for the Jackets AHL affiliate Springfield Falcons next season. Dansk will look to make a case for himself in the Jackets system, and could be NHL ready sooner rather than later.
