Montreal Canadiens Making Matters Worse With Every Loss
The Montreal Canadiens are the most disappointing team this season sitting with a 2-7-1 record now ten games in. They have the league’s worst offense (1.70 goals-per-game) and the second worst defense (3.70 goals-allowed-average) which clearly states the issues outright. Fans have all but given up on seeing the Habs turn this ship around despite with plenty of hockey still to go. Head Coach Claude Julien and his system has once again proved to be lethal against his own team as the Canadiens can’t even buy a goal at this point. Controversies have been on-going as well over Alex Galchenyuk and his near nonexistent point totals as well as if he will be traded in any sort of deal to help the Habs resurrect their season.
Star netminder Carey Price has also found his fair share of criticism with fans going as low as fake cheering every save he made in his last start against the Los Angeles Kings in a 4-0 loss. The Montreal Canadiens betting odds for the season opened at 20/1 alongside their Canadian counterpart the Toronto Maple Leafs. However the Leafs have looked like a playoff team that belongs with no issues in scoring and picking up wins.
Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin has stated he will not make a quick panic move regardless of how the season continues for the Habs. Fans will have to continue to suffer with the product on the ice and only look forward to a possibility of a high draft pick that can be used to retool the team for the following season. This may also not be the ugliest of what we’ve seen thus far as things can still get even worse with injuries on the rise across the league. Perhaps Claude Julien too may find himself on the hot seat by American Thanksgiving time if the team fails to pickup any more wins or show flashes of being able to turn around what is already becoming one of the most disastrous seasons in Canadiens history.
