LA Kings Sign Andreas Athanasiou to One-Year Contract Extension
The LA Kings have signed Andreas Athanasiou to one-year contract extension. The contract extension carries an average annual value (AAV) of $2,700,000.
Athanasiou, 26, played in his first season with the Kings in 2020-21, totaling 23 points (10-13=23) in 47 games. His 10 goals were tied for fifth on the club while his 13 assists and 23 points tied for sixth. The Kings signed Athanasiou as an unrestricted free agent on Dec. 29, 2020 after he split the 2019-20 season between the Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers.
Through 350 NHL regular-season games between the Kings, Oilers and Red Wings, the 6-2, 190-pound forward has compiled 179 points (94-85=179) and added one goal in nine career postseason contests. He played five seasons in Detroit before being traded to Edmonton on Feb. 24, 2020. With the Red Wings in 2018-19, Athanasiou established career-highs in all three major statistical categories with 30 goals, 24 assists and 54 points through 76 games.
