Dallas Stars’ Antoine Roussel to Have Safety Hearing
It looks as if Antoine Roussel of the Dallas Stars could be facing a suspension after his antics on Saturday, November 8 against the San Jose Sharks.
During the last minute of the game, while the Stars were still trying desperately to close the two goal deficit, Antoine Roussel chased down Sharks goaltender Alex Stalock before knocking him down. A large scrum followed this, resulting in Roussel throwing a punch at San Jose’s Justin Braun while Braun was being held back by a linesman. Roussel was given a two minute minor for goalie interference and a ten minute game misconduct for the punch.
As a result of his actions towards Braun, Antoine Roussel is scheduled to meet with the NHL Department of Player Safety this Monday, a meeting that could possibly result in a fine or suspension for Dallas’ “Fighting Frenchman”.
Despite Roussel’s actions on the ice, Stars coach Lindy Ruff said he couldn’t be mad at Roussel, stating, “That kid gives me everything, that was just emotion,” Ruff said. “We still had the power play, we pulled our goalie and we still had the power play. He was laying down blocking shots, he was in front of the net for the power play and he was trying hard. That was just emotion and you can’t criticize [that].”
