Bruins Soar by Flyers to Top Eastern Conference Standings!
The Bruins wasted no time Saturday afternoon as they set the tone of the game against the then Eastern Conference leading Flyers only 27 seconds in by Benoit Pouliot’s 5th goal of the year. Skating into Saturday, Boston received the good news that Captain Zdeno Chara would be in the line up and ready to go. Chara made his presence felt immediately as he dropped gloves for the first time this year with Flyers Jody Shelly.
The Bruins momentum didn’t slow down there either as Daniel Paille netted his 6th goal (3rd goal in 2 games) 2:50 in to make it 2-0 Boston. You would think a timeout would help the Flyers settle down but that wasn’t the case whatsoever. As soon as Chara was out of the box, yet again his presence was recognized as he slapped in his 7th goal of the year on a power-play only 8:08 into the game to make it a commanding 3-0 Bruins lead. Thanks to the help of Scott Harnell and Braydon Coburn receiving a tripping and delay of game penalty respectively would put the Bruins on a 5 on 3 power-play for 1:56. The power-play was once again deadly as Milan Lucic 11th goal of the year on a tip-in from Johnny Boychuk’s blast put the Bruins up 4-0 in the first period.
This was quite a first period on its own. The shots after 1 period were in favor of the Bruins 17-12 and the penalty minutes totaled a whopping 48! I’m sure we all can’t wait to see the next episode of 24/7 Road to the NHL Winter Classic, but the real question is why does Ilya Bryzgalov suck?
^ Really looking forward to another video like this one too.
The Bruins kept on rolling with their 3rd power-play goal by Nathan Horton (his 9th of the year) with an assist by Chara. Less than half the game played and Chara already had a Gordie Howe hat trick. Rich Peverly also collected 3 assists on the day too. Tyler Seguin netted his 14th goal of the year to make it 6-0 and Thomas recorded his 30th career shutout.
Notables:
Bruins are 18-2-1 in their last 21 games. What’s a hangover?
Chara making an Impact: 1G, 1A, 1 Fight, 4 SOG
Bruins Power-Play: 3/8
Total Penalty Minutes in today’s game: 105 (yeah that’s right)
Honestly I expected this to be a game….but at the same time this B’s team is both scary on paper and on ice. Who’s NEXT?
