College Hockey Update: BC Still Stands At #1
The college hockey season is 6 weeks in and many teams have come out strong. Boston College still holds the #1 national ranking after picking up all 4 possible points last weekend with wins against Maine (4-2 Final) and Umass Amherst (3-2 Final). Merrimack swept what was then #15 ranked Northeastern with 2 convincing wins of 5-2 and 4-2. #11 Boston University and #6 North Dakota split their weekend series with both games resulting in scores of 4-2. The #9 UNH Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season to Umass Amherst 2-1 in OT on Friday after starting the season 4-0-1. However, UNH was quick to bounce back with a 4-0 win over Maine on Sunday.
Other notable match-ups included Air Force spanking Holy Cross 7-0, Penn State beating Buffalo State 4-2 and improving on the season to 5-2-0 in their first D1 collegiate hockey season, and #12 Michigan and #16 Northern Michigan playing to a 4-4 OT tie which was ultimately settled 1-0 in shootout by Michigan.
