Gabriel Landeskog addresses swirling retirement rumors

The Colorado Avalanche have officially revealed that captain Gabriel Landeskog would be sidelined for the Entirety of the 2023–24 season with a knee injury.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because Landeskog suffered the same injury in 2022–23 and missed the full regular season before recovering for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Although his health did not get any better, Landeskog was unable to join the club for the postseason.

According to the news of present-day, Landeskog won’t be able to play NHL hockey for two years. Wow…

If that is the situation and Landeskog’s career is indeed done, he will go on a high note. He succeeded in raising the Stanley Cup above his head during his final game. If you had to, it’s not an awful way to go.

However, Landeskog insists that he hasn’t even considered retirement.

“I have not contemplated retirement, at all to be honest with you,” Landeskog said to reporters earlier today. And, while I appreciate the competitive spirit in him, I’m not sure he’s being completely honest. After a year on the shelf and then staring down another wasted year, you have to imagine that Landeskog has contemplated the end of his career even if he’s not open about it.
