NHL Insider links Gerard Gallant already to another NHL coaching job

The New York Rangers and head coach Gerard Gallant are on their way to splitsville after what the Rangers organization described as a mutual parting of ways was officially announced on Saturday. Gallant no longer has a job, but it sounds like it won’t be long until we see him back in the National Hockey League behind a bench.

According to insider Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Gallant will likely be added to the list of applicants for the vacant coaching position in Columbus right away. Portzline claims that before the Blue Jackets selected Brad Larsen as their head coach in June 2021, Gallant shown a great deal of interest in the position, making him an obvious choice for an organization looking for a new head coach.

Multiple reports saying Gerard Gallant and #NYR have mutually agreed to part ways after the Rangers were bounced in the first round of the playoffs.
Gallant was deeply interested in the #CBJ vacancy two years ago when Brad Larsen was hired. Seems likely he’d be a candidate again.

Gallant, who made his NHL coaching debut in Columbus as an assistant behind head coaches Dave King and Doug MacLean, is no stranger to the Blue Jackets organization. Behind the Blue Jackets’ bench, Gallant would eventually take over as the team’s head coach and hold that position for three seasons.

Should Gallant in fact become a candidate in Columbus, his amount of experience with the area and the organization will probably also be seen as a plus.
