Coyotes Franchise in Turmoil as Arena Vote Sends Fans into Panic Mode

When it comes to the approaching public vote on the planned Tempe Sports and Entertainment District that would keep the Arizona Coyotes in the East Valley community, not everyone is behaving like NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Bettman has previously stated that he is in favor of constructing an entertainment center that has a 16,000-seat arena and a practice rink.

If enough signatures were collected asking the referendum, the Tempe council decided 7-0 on Nov. 10 to let people to vote on the project at a special election on May 16.According to the Coyotes, the district would result in increased expenditure of $13.1 billion locally (an average of more over $435 million over 30 years).

But unlike Bettman, the locals are not ecstatic. Insider Frank Seravalli claims that the team is becoming so anxious that they are putting in more effort on behalf of the community.

“I’ll give you a little insight into how worried the Arizona Coyotes are about this arena vote that’s coming up that will determine their future: They have sent members of their front office door-to-door canvassing the last couple weeks,” the insider explained on Sportsnet 960.

This season and through the 2024–25 season, with an option for 2025–26, the Coyotes will continue to play their home games at Mullett Arena on the Arizona State University campus.

The Coyotes might not have a home after 2026 if the vote fails. If the Tempe vote goes poorly, Seravalli could anticipate the Coyotes leaving as soon as next season.

Perhaps Houston would make the most sense for a relocation….
