A second-round pick by the Hurricanes (No. 47) in the 2012 NHL Draft, McGinn became the third member of his family to play in the NHL when he made his debut Oct. 16, 2015, joining older brothers Jamie and Tye. McGinn scored on his first shift, 55 seconds into a 5-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Hurricanes signed McGinn to a two-year contract before the 2017-18 season, and he reached double digits in goals for the first time in the NHL by mid-February and finished with 30 points (16 goals, 14 assists) in 80 games.
McGinn played a role in the Hurricanes’ run to the 2019 Eastern Conference Final, scoring six points (two goals, four assists) in 15 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
