Calgary Flames sign Blake Coleman to a 6-year contract

The Calgary Flames reportedly sign Blake Coleman to a 6-year contract with a $4.9M AAV.

After playing four seasons for Miami University, Coleman signed a two-year contract with the Devils. He began his pro career with Albany of the American Hockey League in 2015-16, and made his NHL debut with New Jersey on Jan. 12, 2017.

Coleman emerged as an important player for the Devils during the 2017-18 season, when New Jersey qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2012. He scored 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 79 games during his first NHL season. Seven of Coleman’s goals came between March 6 and the end of the season, and he played a shutdown role on a line with Travis Zajac and Stefan Noesen.

2018-19 was a breakout season for Coleman, who scored 22 goals in 78 games. He followed that with 21 goals in 57 games for New Jersey in 2019-20 before being traded to the Lightning.
