Winnipeg Jets acquire defenseman Nate Schmidt from the Vancouver Canucks
The Winnipeg Jets have acquired defender Nate Schmidt from the Vancouver Canucks for a 2022 third-round pick, the team announced Tuesday.
The 30-year-old spent one season with Vancouver after three with the Vegas Golden Knights and four with the Washington Capitals before that.
He has four years remaining on the six-year deal he signed with Vegas back in 2018, which includes a modified no-trade clause and a $5.95-million cap hit. The Jets had previously been part of Schmidt’s 10-team no-trade list, per Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, meaning the defender waived said clause to facilitate the move.
Fun fact:
The #Canucks acquired Schmidt for a 3rd round pick on October 12th 2020 from Vegas, which is the reported same return they are receiving from Winnipeg

With the Canucks receiving a 2022 third-rounder back in the deal, they’ve managed to recoup exactly what they gave up to acquire Schmidt from Vegas last off-season.
