Fantasy Hockey Friday #12 (1/30/15)
FHF Key
Flash Sale = Players that are on strong hot streaks that you will need to add immediately before they are claimed by another team.
Bargain Bin = Similar to the Flash Sale category, except these players will not be as highly demanded. They will be claimed relatively quickly, but are not completely known to all teams.
Line Scorers = Players that are currently very low in ownership percentage and includes less-skilled players who are currently playing on productive lines, and have proved/might prove worthy of adding. As every studious fantasy owner knows, line combinations are everything.
Flash Sale
Johnny Gaudreau
– LW, 53% owned – Calgary Flames
I’m still perplexed as to why Johnny Hockey is only owned by half of all Yahoo! leagues. With two goals and two assists in his last four games, he has increased his season totals to 15 goals and 22 assists. Additionally, he’s a plus-11 with 102 shots. Gaudreau is on the top line alongside Sean Monahan and Jiri Hudler. The trio also comprise the top power play unit.
Mike Ribeiro – C, 53% owned – Nashville Predators
Ribeiro is another player I can’t believe is still so widely available. In his last three games he has recorded a goal and four assists. He now has 10 goals and 43 points on the year, along with an impressive plus-17 rating. He doesn’t shoot the puck much since he’s a playmaker, but he does have a fair amount of power play points (8).
Colin Wilson – C/LW, 51% owned (LW: 49%) – Nashville Predators
Wilson has continued to add to his impressive stats this season. He now has 15 goals and 18 assists, along with a plus-22 rating, 106 shots, and five power play points. The month of January has been great for the multi-position Predator, as he has been a point-per-game player. He’s on the second line with Mike Fisher and James Neal. He’s also on the second power play unit.
Tyler Toffoli – RW, 51% owned – Los Angeles Kings
Toffoli is healthy again, and is back on the second line in Los Angeles alongside Jeff Carter and Dwight King. The three forwards are also on the second power play unit. In his first game back he scored a goal and an assist, as well as a plus-two rating. The sophomore winger now has the same point total (29) in 42 games as he had in 62 games his rookie year.
Bargain Bin
Sean Monahan
– C, 35% owned – Calgary Flames (LW: 34%)
Monahan has been flaming hot on the Flames in his last six games in which he has scored four goals and two assists, giving him 15 goals and 31 points. His 121 shots are valuable for leagues that record the stat. He’s on the top line in Calgary alongside Gaudreau and Jiri Hudler. Additionally, all three are on the top power play unit.
Mike Fisher – C, 19% owned (LW: 14%) – Nashville Predators
Fisher continues to light it up this year. Last night saw the veteran pivot score two goals and one assist. He now has 21 points in just 26 games. He plays on the second line in Nashville between Wilson and James Neal. His shot (58) and hit (56) totals provide great secondary stats as well.
Josh Bailey – LW, 8% owned – New York Islanders
Since January 9th, Bailey has scored two goals and seven assists in eight games for the New York Islanders. His increase in production comes as a result of his top-line minutes earned. Before the injury to Kyle Okposo, Bailey has played on the left side of captain John Tavares. Since Okposo’s injury, he has played on his right, with Mikhail Grabovski taking his place on the left wing.
Patrick Maroon – LW, 11% owned (LW: 6%) – Anaheim Ducks
Continuing to play alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry on Anaheim’s top line has allowed Maroon to score unreal amounts of points. He is currently riding a five-game point streak that has seen him score four goals and three assists. He racks up high shots and hits as well.
Alex Galchenyuk – C/LW, 49% owned – Montreal Canadiens
In his last six games, Galchenyuk has scored three goals and two assists for Montreal, giving him 13 goals and 32 points for the season.
Matt Beleskey – LW, 34% owned – Anaheim Ducks
Beleskey continues to surprise everyone this year with two goals and two assists in his last five games. His previous goal total was 11 in 2009-10, his rookie season. He now has 19.
John Klingberg – D, 12% owned – Dallas Stars
The Swedish rookie defenseman has continued to earn top-pairing minutes and power play time. This has allowed him to score three goals and four assists in his last seven games, including a power play point in his last game. Additionally, he has begun shooting the puck more frequently.
Michael Del Zotto – D, 13% owned – Philadelphia Flyers
With two goals and four assists in five games, Del Zotto has started to improve on his meager ten point production. He hasn’t come close to matching his 37-point rookie season or 41 point 2011-12 campaign in recent years.
