Blackhawks Trade Pirri to Florida
The Chicago Blackhawks announced Sunday that they have sent forward prospect Brandon Pirri (drafted 2009) to the Florida Panthers in exchange for two draft picks, Florida’s 3rd rounder in 2014 and their 5th rounder in 2016.
Pirri was, in the end, a casualty of the stellar depth that Chicago has in their system. Though he had several opportunities at cracking the Blackhawks roster, and indeed was expected to do so this year, in the end Quenneville was unimpressed with his defensive play and Pirri was returned to the Icehogs, Chicago’s AHL affiliate. Pirri appeared in 28 games with the Blackhawks this season, recording 11 points (6G, 5A); and 25 games with the IceHogs, recording 24 points (10G, 14A).
Dale Tallon, GM of the Florida Panthers (and GM of the Blackhawks when Pirri was drafted), said about the acquisition, “Brandon is a young and talented player who we are extremely pleased to have acquired. He has experienced tremendous success on the American Hockey League level, being named MVP of the All-Star game and winning the league’s scoring title. Pirri further adds to our depth at center along with Aleksander Barkov, Nick Bjugstad and Drew Shore. We look forward to his contributions to our team.”
