The Canucks can breathe a sigh of relief after hearing the news that Henrik Sedin won’t be joining his brother Daniel and participating in the Winter Olympics this year. “I’m disappointed not to be physically able to represent my country at the Winter Olympic Games,” Sedin said. “This is a difficult decision but ultimately the best decision for me personally, Team Sweden and the Vancouver Canucks.”
Ain’t that the truth, eh Hank?
After sustaining a rib injury against the Phoenix Coyotes on January 17th by the hands of Martin Hanzal (or his stick?), he’s been bouncing in and out of the lineup and finally the Canucks shut him down for the next two weeks. Henrik missed six games before joining the team on this road trip and played in the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins games, but had no points in either game. Yesterday the Canucks said enough is enough and told him he wouldn’t be playing in yesterday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens nor would he be against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the final game before the Olympic break and confirmed he won’t be in Sochi with his brother.
This was a good choice made by Sedin to miss the Olympics and nurse his injury. Imagine if he went over to Sochi and played lights out leading only to lots of questions to be asked later on. Both Sedins have been struggling as of late and are having problems getting the puck in the back of the net. Hopefully this prolonged break will assist Henrik in getting some much needed rest to heal up for a playoff push by the Canucks.
