Sabres Building their AHL Team
The Buffalo Sabres made two, low-key signings this week. First, they signed forward Jamie Tardif, who appeared with the Providence Bruins last season. With Providence, Tardif scored a career-high 30 goals. He also made his NHL debut this season, playing 2 games for the Boston Bruins but was held off the scoresheet.
For their second low-key signing, the Sabres re-signed forward Corey Tropp to a one-year deal. The Sabres are giving Tropp another look after he sustained a costly knee injury last season that limited him to 6 games total. Tropp will most likely start the season for the Rochester Americans. He has appeared in 108 AHL games over 3 seasons. In that time he has amassed 21 goals and 45 assists.
It will be interesting to see where these two players will end up. Tropp did have some extensive NHL experience in the 2011-2012 season with the Sabres. He played 34 games and totaled 8 pts (3g-5a). Both will most likely play for the Rochester Americans to start the season. The Americans looked poised to make a deep run at the Calder Cup. However, from an organization standpoint, shouldn’t we building toward a Stanley Cup?
