2021-2022 NHL Season Schedule to be released by Thursday Evening July 22nd
The 2021–22 NHL season will be the 105th season of operation (104th season of play) consisting of 32 teams with the addition of the Seattle Kraken.
The league plans to return to its normal October-to-April scheduling, a full 82-game regular season with a target date of October 12 for opening night, but this is contingent on the COVID-19 pandemic and the Government of Canada reducing its COVID-19 cross-border travel restrictions.
The current word is that the Schedule will be released at 6pm ET Thursday evening.
However don’t be surprised to either see a leak or earlier release by noon on the east coast.
The league plans to hold the following outdoor games:
-The Winter Classic, featuring the Minnesota Wild hosting the St. Louis Blues at Target Field. This was originally scheduled for 2021, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
-The Stadium Series game on February 26, 2022 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, with the Nashville Predators hosting to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The postponed 2021 game was planned to be hosted by the Carolina Hurricanes at Carter–Finley Stadium, against an opponent yet to be announced. The Hurricanes asked the league to postpone their outdoor game for at least another season, with team president and general manager Don Waddell stating that they wanted “to assure a safe environment”
On June 28, 2021, the league announced that the 2022 All-Star Game will take place for the first time at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, home of the Vegas Golden Knights. During seasons when the league goes to send players to the Olympics (most recently in 2014), the All-Star Game is not normally held. The league cited the fact that it had not yet signed a deal with the International Olympic Committee on sending players to the 2022 Beijing Olympics, so it decided to go ahead and schedule an All-Star Game anyway.
